Operation Blessing Medical Team Helping in Turkey: 'It's Only Possible Because of Our Donors'

HATAY, Turkey – The government in Turkey is working hard to meet the needs of millions of earthquake victims. Sadly, some victims are falling through the cracks. That’s where CBN’s Operation Blessing comes in.

Even the smallest acts of service can make a huge difference in helping people survive.

Operation Blessing’s medical team is here on the scene in the Hatay area, serving a small community that’s really been forgotten.

Operation Blessing’s doctors have been in communication with the Turkish Medical Association, a part of the government, and their doctors are out serving big tent villages where hundreds if not thousands of the now-homeless residents have taken refuge.

CBN Correspondent Dan Reany reports from Hatay, “We’re here in an area where there are maybe 20 or 30 tents and less than 100 people. But that’s where Operation Blessing comes in. We’re here treating some of the common things like cuts, scrapes, and bruises and the main thing we’re seeing is intestinal issues: people with diarrhea, people with vomiting and that’s largely due just to the lack of sanitation and hygiene out here. Now, we’re giving people the medicine they need, but we’ve also been delivering chlorine.”

Back at OB headquarters here in Turkey, our chlorine-making machine is set up to take mass amounts of chlorine to give to communities like this one so people can keep their dishes and serving utensils clean.

The ministry has also been delivering food and water. And today we were even able to help a lady who had a tent but she didn’t know how to set it up and she couldn’t find any help, so we helped her.

Reany explains, “These are the kinds of things that OB is getting accomplished here for the people of Hatay, Turkey, and it’s only possible because of the support of our donors. So we want to say thank you on behalf of all the people we are here serving. You are changing lives for people in desperate need.”

US Navy Intel Commander Warns China's 'Messianic' Totalitarian Leader Planning a Taiwan War with USA

US Navy Intel Commander Warns China's 'Messianic' Totalitarian Leader Planning a Taiwan War with USA

TAIPEI, Taiwan – China represents the world’s number one challenge of the 21st century.

That warning comes from the head of America’s Office of Naval Intelligence as the Communist nation builds its military might across the Pacific.

The tiny island of Taiwan finds itself in Beijing’s crosshairs with continued signs of a possible Chinese invasion.

In August, the Chinese military sent a loud wakeup call to the United States and allies in the region with a massive, unprecedented drill simulating a blockade of Taiwan.

“It crossed multi thresholds, and that hasn’t happened in decades,” Dr. Alexander Huang of Tamkang University told CBN News from his office in Taiwan’s capital city.

China sent 176 war planes, 41 navy ships and dozens of attack and reconnaissance drones to choke off Taiwan’s waters and airspace for 72 hours.

Eleven ballistic missiles also landed in the waters around the island.

“China gave one spoon of different dishes to Taiwan and we got the taste of it,” Dr. Huang said. “If they put out the full plate, the whole table, we probably will have big problems.”

Military activities near the island haven’t stopped.

A record 1,727 Chinese fighter planes crossed into Taiwan’s air defense zone in 2022, compared to 960 incursions in 2021 and 380 in 2020.

2023 has been no different.

“The Chinese outward expansionism of influence and presence is scaring and destabilizing an entire region,” warned Rear Adm. Michael Studeman, commander of the Office of Naval Intelligence.

Experts say while Taiwan has a well-equipped military with modern weapons systems, including fighter jets, tanks, and surface-to-air missiles, it lacks the full range of capabilities to defend itself against China.

“Yes, there’s a 110-miles of water between China and the main island of Taiwan and yes, Taiwan is mountainous and is a perfect place for defenders but Taiwan has not invested in its defense and part of that is because Taiwan’s generals and admirals have bought the wrong equipment over the course of decades,” Gordon Chang, author of The Coming Collapse of China and a senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute, told CBN News.

In January, a Washington-based think-tank simulated a war-game of China invading Taiwan in 2026.

In 24 different scenarios, the Center for Strategic and International Studies said Taiwan could likely fend off a Chinese invasion only if the United States came to the island’s defense.

If not, Taiwan would fall in three months.

President Biden has repeatedly vowed to defend Taiwan in case it’s attacked.

“U.S.-Taiwan relations have really come out of the shadows in a lot of ways,” Brian Harding with United States Institute of Peace, told CBN News. “I think European countries, Japan and others are going to be focused on this in support of Taiwan’s right to defend itself in ways that maybe they wouldn’t have been a few years ago.”

War games show, however, any victory over the Chinese would come at great cost.

“In four weeks of fighting, the United States typically lost hundreds of aircraft, two aircraft carriers and up to two dozen other ships,” Mark Cancian with the Center for Strategic and International Studies said in a video statement.

More than 3,000 American soldiers would lose their lives in the simulation and China would also suffer significant loses.

CSIS says the simulation shows 90% of China’s amphibious fleet decimated, more than 100 warships destroyed and tens of thousands of its soldiers killed, wounded or captured.

Still, from Washington to London to here in Taiwan’s capital Taipei, one thing is clear:

“It’s not a matter of if they will invade, it’s a matter of when they will invade,” warned Admiral Lee Hsi-ming, former defense chief of Taiwan’s armed forces.

In an exclusive interview from his office in Taiwan’s capital Taipei, Adm. Lee tells CBN News why China’s president is so determined to take Taiwan.

“You firmly believe that Xi Jinping truly believes that it is his destiny, it is his calling, to reunite Taiwan?” CBN News asked Admiral Lee.

“I believe so because he has already said it,” Lee told CBN News. “Deng Xiaoping said we have the patience, we can wait even for a hundred years, but Xi Jinping didn’t say so; He said we just cannot delay the unification of Taiwan, we need to accomplish this in our generation.”

Beijing claims the island as part of its territory, a sentiment that runs deep in Chinese society.

“That’s why it’s not just a Communism thing. It really is, in Chinese eyes, a patriotism, a nationalism thing,” Michael O’Hanlon with the Washington, D.C.-based Brookings Institution, told CBN News.

President Xi has ordered his military, known as the People’s Liberation Army, to be ready to take Taiwan by 2027, which marks the force’s 100th anniversary.

But, could that be a smokescreen?

U.S. Air Force Gen. Mike Minihan told his staff in a memo to prepare for the U.S. going to war with China over Taiwan in two years.

“I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me we will fight in 2025,” Minihan, who oversees transport and refueling for the Air Force, wrote last month.

Meanwhile, Rear Adm. Studeman warns that President Xi’s rapid military modernization, coupled with an ambition to be the world’s strongest political figure, makes China today the number one challenge of the 21st century.

“History tells us that a Messianic leader with a centralized control, in charge of a totalitarian society, with grievances, with a lot of hard power at their disposal, with an ambition to change the international system to their preferences – when you put that combo together that represents one of the most dangerous trends in geopolitics,” Adm. Studeman said.

The U.S. is now deploying additional troops to Taiwan, increasing funding for existing Pacific military operations and recently inked a deal with the U.K. and Australia to build next-generation submarines in a bid to counter China’s threat.

Still, it’s doing little to deter Beijing.

“The Chinese already think that the U.S. will intervene if they do a military operation against Taiwan because they are building a military designed to handle U.S. intervention or Australian or Japanese help. They are building a force so big that they can handle that kind of intervention,” warned Adm. Studeman.

CBN's Operation Blessing Rallies on 'World Water Day' to Bring Clean Water to Struggling Communities

More than two billion people around the world don’t have access to safe drinking water. So Wednesday, March 22 has been named World Water Day to draw attention to this critical global need.

Clean water access is precious, and people who don’t have it are suffering daily. Since 1993, the world has taken one day a year to unite around clean water as one of our greatest common needs. This World Water Day is about accelerating change to solve the water crisis.

CBN’s Operation Blessing is doing its part to increase access to clean water around the world.  One of those examples is in Yargüera, Honduras. Families there have water access from hand-dug wells around their small community. They know it might make them and their children sick. They boil and strain the dirty, often contaminated water, but it’s not enough.

Michel shared, “I drank some water because I was very tired. Minutes later, I had a big stomachache. I told my dad that I didn’t feel well and needed to take medicine; I felt like I was being attacked in my stomach. I took some medicine, but the pain wouldn’t go away.”

It’s terrible to have to fear something you need to survive. The good news is, Operation Blessing is working to rewrite this remote community’s story to give them a water system delivering clean water to the nearly 140 people.

slider img 2This community now has hope and a new future. The constant danger of waterborne illness has faded as every household gets the chance to access clean water.

Here’s how you can join with Operation Blessing to deliver clean water and show this community God’s love today.

As CBN News reported late last month, safe drinking water is also a major need following disasters such as the Turkey earthquakes. CBN’s Operation Blessing has come up with a solution.

Jose Esquer, Operation Blessing’s on-site water engineer, said of the scene in Turkey and Syria, “This area of the country is almost lost… In some other disasters, it’s a fraction (of an area) and even in that fraction, it’s not general (or widespread). This earthquake is like off the charts.”

He added, “Right now there is bottled water but there is not enough bottled water. So, we are looking for solutions.”

Now Operation Blessing has set up a reverse osmosis system to take undrinkable water and make it safe.

Esquer showed CBN News the process of making the water safe. First, he took some of the well water from a storage tank.

“You see the difference of the water,” he said. “It has a lot of (metals) and also a lot of minerals, calcium. Definitely not drinkable.”

After measuring the contaminants, Esquer got a reading of more than 1,000, indicating high contamination.

“It may have something like excessive minerals, excessive some metals even, and that is something that we are not going to allow let us happen on our watch. So let’s go to the kitchen,” Esquer suggested.

In the kitchen, he showed us how they take the contaminated water and make it safe for cooking and drinking. Afterward, he took his instrument to measure again, and it dropped from over 1,000 to about 50.

Esquer compared the before and after water sources. “This is the water from the well. Right now if you open the faucet you will have this (undrinkable water). And this is the one that comes from the reverse osmosis system. And this is totally drinkable… The water that we have is perfect. It’s safe.”

Contaminated water such as the water found in Turkey can cause long-term consequences.

“Toxic metals, even heavy metals, has damage in the organs for long years and when you have some symptoms, it’s too late,” Esquer explained.

Other research and technology have also been used for the creation of clean water.

CLICK HERE to join Operation Blessing in its efforts to deliver clean water and God’s love to communities throughout the world.

CBN News also brought you the story about how one Israeli company Watergen has become a world leader in the groundbreaking technology of making water out of air.

Its vision is to provide everyone with clean and safe drinking water and that vision has also helped strengthen ties between the Jewish state and the Arab world.

Watergen’s technology helped make friends out of former enemies. They linked up with the Emirati company Al-Aahra Group to sign a landmark agreement in 2021 for a water research program.

“What we’re doing with Watergen is bringing these two institutes together, such that with water, purified through Watergen from the air, can then be used to funnel into agriculture systems to provide horticulture in desert urban settings,” Al-Aahra Group President Daniel Chamovitz told CBN News at the time.

Watergen’s biggest machines make 1,300-1,600 gallons of water a day.

“We’re going to introduce bigger machines in the future, but factories, no, because the whole idea here is about decentralization,” Michael Rutman, Co-CEO of Watergen, explained. “The whole idea is to place as many small machines or medium machines all around the place and to create the water when you consume it.”

Militants Murder 27 Christians in Nigeria to Prevent Them from Voting in Election

Armed militants in Nigeria have murdered 27 Christians in the lead-up to elections there.

The same radicals who recently murdered 17 Christians in Agwan Wakili attacked another Christian community in Mubushi and Langsong, killing 10 more people and wounding 14 others.

Persecution watchdog International Christian Concern (ICC) reports the militants attacked during the night on March 14 during hot weather. Most of the villagers were sleeping outside while others kept watch after receiving an earlier warning. Instead of using firearms, the militants quietly slipped inside one compound using machetes and axes. They reportedly killed five people before an alarm could be sounded.  As they fled, they killed five more people.

slider img 2“This attack is the political massacre of Christians in places where APC (All Progressives Congress) is likely going to lose the gubernatorial election on 18, March 2023,” a local leader named Dereck told an ICC staffer. “Christian local farmers are facing series of attacks during the period of the election in Nigeria.”

A witness explained the attack is to stop Christians from voting in the gubernatorial race.

“The attack is to displace Christians who will not vote for the ruling APC,” a community leader said.

Their candidate for governor and the deputy governor candidates are both Christians, according to the ICC.

One leader expressed frustration that the government remains silent as these attacks continue. A source said some of the militants are members of the Nigerian army.

“Before they attack, a helicopter flew on a close range hovering around the community and neighborhood. Less than an hour from when it left, the attack took place,” a contact wrote to an ICC staffer: “One would be forced to conclude that the helicopter flew for the following reasons: To survey and see populated communities. To check and analyze the security architecture of the target community so that the enemy can have a counter plan to defeat the poor indigenous people. To drop off the attackers, since the neighborhood communities have been vigilant and the routes were blocked.”

Nigeria ranks number 6 on the Open Doors 2023 World Watch List of the most dangerous countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution.

Calgary Pastor Arrested for Second Time After Protesting Drag Show at Public Library

A Calgary pastor was arrested for the second time on March 15 for protesting a drag queen story hour event at a public library.

A video clip of the arrest shared on social media by Canadian outlet Rebel News shows Pastor Derek Reimer of Mission 7 Ministries being arrested by Calgary police officers.

As other demonstrators complain about the pastor’s arrest to the group of officers, two officers force Reimer to his knees, handcuff him, and then dragged him to their vehicle after the pastor refused to walk. He stayed silent throughout his arrest.

slider img 2Reimer, 36, was arrested for ignoring the initial bail condition that prohibited him from being within 200 meters (218 yards) of events involving the LGBTQ community, Calgary police told The New York Post

He was charged with one count of causing a disturbance and another count of mischief, but he also faces six other counts of harassment under the city’s law, the outlet reported.

Under the Calgary city ordinance, the maximum penalty is a fine of up to $10,000 or six months in prison for each count if payment cannot be made.

Reimer was previously arrested on March 2 for protesting at another drag queen event at the Seton Library on Feb. 25. During that demonstration, he was allegedly tossed out of the building by three men, Fox News reported.

The pastor was also served a trespass notice at City Hall the day before for silently praying in objection to the ordinance as it was being debated by city officials, according to Rebel News.

In a video clip tweeted by the outlet, Reimer and a small group of people were praying inside the building when police officers approached them. The pastor was the only one issued a trespass notice out of the group of five people.  He was told by a Calgary City Hall security officer that he was being cited for “holding a prayer event inside the municipal complex interior without a permit on March 7. And today as well you’re holding a religious event inside the municipal building interior without a permit.”

The city’s ordinance was passed after Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek promised to crack down on anti-drag protests.

“1/I’ll be unpacking all the ‘reasons’ why enforcement teams & the Crown feel the street harassment bylaw & other existing bylaws/legislation are not strong enough to charge demonstrators who spread vile lies & hatred in public. And then I’ll be pushing for more. No more excuses,” Gondek tweeted.

The city’s new Safe and Inclusive Access Bylaw forbids protests within 100 meters of city libraries and recreation centers.

Reimer, whose missions work focuses on the vulnerable, homeless, and drug-addicted in Calgary’s downtown area, protested a drag queen at an all-ages drag show at Calgary’s Seton library late last month, according to Rebel News

According to an update posted by the outlet, after a court appearance on Friday, the crown prosecutor was absent and the court was adjourned. Reimer remains at the Calgary Remand Centre until March 22 when the court is scheduled to reconvene.
